September is Western Month!
Ride into the golden age of Hollywood this September with four unforgettable Western classics. From frontier legends to epic journeys, these films capture the spirit of the Old West in all its glory.
📅 September 4 – Winchester ’73 (1950)
James Stewart stars in this gripping tale of revenge and redemption. On the hunt for his brother’s killer—who also stole his prized Winchester rifle—Stewart’s journey intertwines with the rifle’s passage through many hands. Supported by Shelley Winters, Dan Duryea, and more, this landmark film also marks the start of “the Jimmy Stewart treatment,” where Stewart earned more through profit-sharing than his old MGM contract.
📅 September 11 – My Darling Clementine (1946)
Director John Ford reimagines the legendary Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, drawing on stories told to him by Wyatt Earp himself. Henry Fonda shines as Earp, with Victor Mature as Doc Holliday and Walter Brennan as the ruthless Old Man Clanton. A mix of history, myth, and Ford’s unmatched storytelling.
📅 September 18 – The Searchers (1956)
Hailed as one of the greatest Westerns ever made, this sweeping Technicolor epic stars John Wayne as a man consumed by vengeance on a five-year quest to find his kidnapped niece. Directed by John Ford and featuring his stock company of actors, this masterpiece explores prejudice, obsession, and redemption.
📅 September 25 – Union Pacific (1939)
Cecil B. DeMille brings the building of the Transcontinental Railroad to life in true epic fashion. Joel McCrea and Barbara Stanwyck headline a star-studded cast in a tale of ambition, danger, and the taming of the frontier. Classic DeMille action at its finest.
